- What is popular culture, and what does it mean to you?
- Pop culture is informal versus what is traditionally though of as culture ie. classical music.
- pop culture to me is something that popular at the moment with a large group of people. pop culture is also the things that have taken over my everyday life like computers and I pods, I am absolutely sure i could not function with my Blackberry.
- Why is an understanding of popular culture relevant to you in a business environment and in your present and future career?
- Pop Culture is all around us and has infiltrated the business world. A lot of companies use pop culture to their advantage when advertising knowing that the tactic with engage their target audience.
- What would you consider to be an example of a pop culture artifact? And why would you choose it?
- I chose the show Glee and specifically the recent Brittney/Brittany episode. Brittany Spears has been a pop culture icon for some time and the show Glee has reached critical mass with its popularity as well. I felt this made a perfect choice for an artifact.

Yes Pop Culture could be what is popular at the moment but is could also be what has been popular when you were a kid. Did you not have a popular toy or a popular TV show that you watched or played with. To me popular is not just what is popular at this moment but what is popular to me my entire life. There was a popular toy that I played with and popular TV shows taht we watched as a kid so Pop Culture can mean all sorts of different eras.
ReplyDeleteI loved that you chose Glee. The show definately represents pop culture especially this episode. Britney Spears is definately a pop culture icon in her own right. The two together are a power-house. Thus, why this particlar episode set a record for the show of 13.5 million viewers (http://livefeed.hollywoodreporter.com/2010/09/glee-britney-spears-ratings.html ).
ReplyDeleteI love the pictures you used in your title. Every single picture depicts someone or something that was/is a pop culture phenomenon in its time. I personally love the Jersey Shore castmembers. Your blog is very creative and I enjoyed it a great deal!
